October is the perfect season to read some witchy books and I’ve read some good ones in the past few months. So, I thought why not make an article about them and here we are!
Note: All the synopsis are from Goodreads.

Serpent & Dove

Synopsis:
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.
The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.
And love makes fools of us all.
If you’re looking for an enemy to lovers plot and an unusual magic system, Serpent & Dove is perfect for you! And having a sassy witch as the heroine is just one of the assets of this book.

The Bone Witch

Synopsis:
When Tea accidentally resurrects her brother, Fox, from the dead, she learns she is different from the other witches in her family. Her gift for necromancy means that she’s a bone witch, a title that makes her feared and ostracized by her community. But Tea finds solace and guidance with an older, wiser bone witch, who takes Tea and her brother to another land for training.
In her new home, Tea puts all her energy into becoming an asha—one who can wield elemental magic. But dark forces are approaching quickly, and in the face of danger, Tea will have to overcome her obstacles…and make a powerful choice.
I’ve just started this one and it’s really good so far. It’s darker than the other books of this list and has a lot of folklore and a complex worldbuilding making me eager to discover more!
The Bone Witch

Synopsis:
I never thought in a million years that the bones would choose me.
The power, the magic, was supposed to go to someone else in the family. I was counting on it.
But now my Grammy Ruby is gone, and here the bones sit on my kitchen table.
I thought bitter relatives would be my biggest problem. But I’ve barely had time to find a familiar before trouble comes a-knocking. The kind that possesses smoldering green eyes and a smile that can turn any woman dumb.
His name is Rogan Kendrick, and he’s certain that someone is hunting down and taking my kind.
According to him, I’m next.
This is a world that I never wanted to be a part of, but magic gives no fucks and takes no prisoners… At least we have that much in common.
I don’t know what my ancestors were thinking when they chose me, but I’m going to give them a run for their money. My name is Lennox Osseous, but you can call me the Bone Witch.
It seems there’s a trend here 😂 I really enjoyed this one, which is quite easy and quick to read.

The Ravens

Synopsis:
Kappa Rho Nu isn’t your average sorority. Their parties are notorious. Their fundraisers are known for being Westerly College’s most elaborate affairs. But beneath the veil of Greek life and prestige, the sisters of Kappu Rho Nu share a secret: they’re a coven of witches.
For Vivi Deveraux, being one of Kappa Rho Nu’s Ravens means getting a chance to redefine herself. For Scarlett Winters, a bonafide Raven and daughter of a legacy Raven, pledge this year means living up to her mother’s impossible expectations of becoming Kappa Rho Nu’s next president. Scarlett knows she’d be the perfect candidate—that is, if she didn’t have one human-sized skeleton in her closet….
When Vivi and Scarlett are paired as big and little for initiation, they find themselves sinking into the sinister world of blood oaths and betrayals.
The Ravens is one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. It’s the perfect mix of witches, thriller and (dark) academia!
A Discovery of Witches

Synopsis:
Deep in the stacks of Oxford’s Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbled upon a coveted treasure lost for centuries-and she is the only creature who can break its spell.
Yeah I know I keep talking about this one… But it’s so good! I have just one thing to say: READ IT!
What would be the witchy books you would recommend?
I need to read Serpent & Dove and The Bone Witch!

Both are great books! The Bone Witch by R. Chupeco leans more towards high fantasy than Serpent & Dove if it can help you picking one 😉
