Monthly Wrap-ups

My January Reads

I can’t believe January is already over… Unfortunately, I’m beginning 2023 with mild books, none of them really grabbed my attention while still being enjoyable!

Here are all my full reviews for January:

  1. Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley
  2. The Christmas Promise by Sue Moorcroft
  3. Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows
  4. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
  5. Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco (review to come)

Twelve Days of Christmas by Trisha Ashley

Themes: Christmas Romance, Adult, Contemporary

My rating: 3/5

Quick review: I could feel this book was a bit old given how the main character was treated, which was problematic, at least for me. However, despite this dimension that really lowered my rating, I still enjoyed this romance which was Christmassy and cosy enough.

The Christmas Promise by Sue Moorcroft

Themes: Christmas Romance, Adult, Contemporary

My rating: 3/5

Quick review: This romance didn’t totally convince me either, and neither did it manage to give me the Christmassy atmosphere I was looking for. It remains an enjoyable one-time read.

Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows

Themes: Fantasy, YA

My rating: 3.5/5

Quick review: I spent a good moment with this one, if only because of the dragons. It’s not groundbreaking in any way, the heroine is a bit annoying (even though it’s understandable for once) and the fantasy aspect is lacking a bit, but it was a good read still.

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

Themes: High fantasy, YA

My rating: 3.5/5

Quick review: There are a lot of critics to make about this book, but I already rambled about it in my full review so I’ll spare you. I’m intrigued enough to hope to continue the series in 2023, even though it’s not on my priority TBR!

Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco

Themes: Fantasy romance, New Adult, Witches

My rating: 4/5

Quick review: I’m still wondering if my rating really reflects my reading experience. I enjoyed the series but to be honest, the only book I found really good was the second one. I have too many questions left and the plot was a bit sloppy, but I still had a good time with it. And it helped me complete a prompt for the January Magical readathon!

How was your first reading month of 2023?

  1. Great monthly wrap-up! I’m sorry to hear that the first month of reading was full of ‘mid’ books though. I’ve had Truthwitch on my TBR for ages and for a long time I only heard mostly positive things about it. I’ve been seeing more mixed reviews come out about it now so that’s interesting. I’m looking forward to reading it and I hope you enjoy the rest of the series whenever you pick it up. Hope your February is filled with awesome reads!
