Mid-Year Freak Out Tag 2022

We’re already 7 months in the year and I thought I’ll add my own freak-out tag to the ones I’ve been seeing popping everywhere…

Best book you’ve read so far in 2022?

That’s so difficult to say since I’ve read so many great books! To avoid being predictable by saying Throne of Glass or The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo I’ll go with The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh, which made me travel in a wonderfully whimsical, Korean-inspired world.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022?

Oh, it’ll be easier. Kingdom of the Cursed was a real surprise to me. I didn’t really enjoy the first book of the series and the only reason I decided to go with the sequel was that I had heard it was much better. Fortunately, I wasn’t disappointed by it and I’m now waiting impatiently for the finale!

New release(s) you haven’t read yet but want to?

There are probably others but since I tend to add books to my TBR not looking at their publishing date…

Most anticipated releases for the second half of the year?

  • The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
  • Zodiac Academy 8 (the last one!!!) by Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti
  • Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco
  • Babel by R.F. Kuang
  • etc… (Yup my TBR is huge)

Biggest disappointment?

It causes me physical pain to say it but… A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. I really wish authors and publishers knew when to stop before ruining a series…

Biggest surprise?

I’ll go with this one again, simply because I wasn’t expecting much from it, least of all to love it so much.

Favourite new author (new to you or debut)?

I’ll go with two: Axie Oh for The Girl who Fell Beneath the Sea and Margaret Rogerson for An Enchantment of Ravens.

Newest fictional crush?

I’ll go with Wrath from Kingdom of the Cursed who redeemed himself by finally having a bit more substance than in the first book!

Newest favourite fictional character?

Easy! Celeana in Throne of Glass! She’s everything I like in a character: independent, sassy, flawed…

A book that made you cry?

None for the moment, even if The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo almost made me shed a few tears. But I don’t despair!

A book that made you happy?

Once again The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea! This book really is one of my favourites this year and reminded me of Studio Ghibli!

Favourite book-to-movie adaptation you’ve seen this year?

I’ll pass this one! I’m not a big TV watcher and usually, the books I read are not adapted…

Most beautiful book you’ve bought or received this year?

I’m finally subscribed to FairyLoot so I’ve been receiving beautiful editions for a few months now!

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Far too many! But no pressure, I’ll read what I can. The goal is to enjoy myself, not transforming reading into another task to be done.
